[edit] Foreword
- Alright, first I’m assuming that you know the basics of the game. If not, I recommend Ix’s tutorial, or Skandis’ videos. Otherwise, you’ll be completely lost while trying to carry out these instructions. Finally, this guide is pretty damn long because I’m a bit verbose, so you might want to read this BEFORE trying to attack a shrine.
[edit] The Recommendations
- First, it’s best that you have your own shrine. Not only does this provide a good income, but it also helps in a few other steps along the way.
[edit] Find a shrine
- The first and most obvious step of conquering a shrine is scouting it out. This seems like such a stupidly obvious step that it shouldn’t even be mentioned, but bear with me on this. Oftentimes, a shrine will be hidden underground or in a thick wall or in the sky or something. The best way to handle this is to zoom all the way out (Remember, scroll down or page down to do this) and take a look around. Not only does this provide you with a good view of the cell, but it also lets you see through some walls. If you position a wall between yourself and the camera, it will turn transparent, revealing whatever is between it and you. Find out exactly where the shrine is.
- You don’t want to bomb open an empty box. You really really don’t. I recommend scouting for the shrine during BUILD mode, so you aren’t in any hurry. Also because occasionally people will attempt to fight for their shrines in STATIC mode.
[edit] Prepare for Attack
- How are you going to get to the shrine, and more importantly, is it worth it? Do you really want to spend twenty tokens trying to get to a shrine that has little value in and of itself? Of course, if you don’t have a shrine, the answer is probably “yes” because anything is better than having 0 shrines. But still, you want a shrine that goes down with as little effort as possible. At this point, the easiest shrines will be taken with a Mega Jump and a bomb.
- Just walking up to a shrine is too good to be true, and if you can do it, then you obviously have probability-warping powers. Go outside and make something of them. Go on, do it. Win the lotto or something.
[edit] Step 1
- This is a bit vague. How can you tell if a shrine can easily be taken, or can turn a profit? First off, look at the little bar down on the screen. Is it going to be in STATIC mode for longer than 5 minutes? Then that probably means that there are tokens in there. If this is so, proceed to the next step.
[edit] Step 2
- Next question, how much time is left on the STATIC timer? Bear in mind that a bomb costs 10 tokens. That means that it has to be in STATIC for at least an hour and forty minutes for it to be worth one bomb. Three hours and twenty minutes makes it worth two bombs. If you know the time left, but not the time elapsed, leave it alone for that amount of time. Go check out more shrines. Go outside. Build a temple to Pallas Ix-ena, or Aionysus. Just be sure to be back after that time is elapsed, or at least before the STATIC time is up. This guarantees a profit, or at least no loss.
[edit] Step 3
- Here's a tip. A bomb will reach down about two Floor tiles if they’re closely spaced, but they won’t reach across a floor tile. Think “pile driver”. A megabomb is 4x better, but it’s easier to die like that, and they’re more expensive.
[edit] Step 4
- Actually attack. This is the fun part. Put on some epic music. I recommend something by AC/DC or Lordi. “Flight of the Valkyries” works as well if you like classical. But whatever floats yer boat.
- Now, the most important part of a good attack is the ability to exploit a structure’s weaknesses.
- [A] Is the shrine in midair? Odds are, there are enough midair objects to form a makeshift ladder up to the object. Otherwise, if you own a neighboring tile, you can build one yourself. This is rather time-consuming, so you might want to make sure that you have enough time to do this. Make sure that the highest tile is jutting out into the target cell, so you have plenty of room to jump.
- [1] Before worrying about a lack of midair objects, consider this. Oftentimes, if there’s a wall with tiles that aren’t perfectly aligned, you can jump onto a bit that’s sticking out for a decent vertical boost. If I ever refer to this again during the guide, I’m calling it a “wall-jump”. (One once was able to directly jump into a wall, in a process called "Wall Hacking." Sadly, this no longer works.
- [B] Is the shrine encased in a hollow box? If so, place a bomb at the thinnest accessible spot. By “Accessible,” I mean “the thinnest spot where you’ll be able to get back to after the whole thing goes kaboom.” Run like heck, hope that you didn’t bomb out the ground you’re standing on, and claim your prize.
- [C] Is it underground? In that case, you might want to reconsider your efforts. Seriously, if it’s really deep underground, then it’ll take a lot of effort to access. If it’s not, then basically treat it as if it was in a box that you could only access from the top. It’s pretty easy after that. But if it is, you might want to consider giving up or going onto the next step in this abomination of an outline.
- Most good underground protective chambers are stored in boxes that are hanging in midair, underground, where there are no other midair objects. So, get ready for a slightly longer explanation. If you own a neighboring tile, build an underground bridge that gets you as close to the target shrine as possible. Follow Step4[B] to get inside the box and remember that oftentimes you can get straight to the shrine if you can find a wall-jumpable point on the layer of ground. It is a lot easier than just bombing straight downwards, as this saves multiple bombs and that’s always a plus. Make sure that you can escape before the bomb goes off. If you time it right, you can look like Vin Diesel as you jump away from the explosion. I don’t recommend this, but hey, do what you gotta do.
[edit] Step 5
- Rejoice, and rebuild the defenses. Make them better so somebody else can’t read this guide and do the exact same thing that you did. Unless you’re just in it for the looting.
