So, to help get some creative juices flowing in the community, and to help expand the stage base for Void Avoid, I am holding a stage building contest! Rules are as follows:
1) Any previously created stages are not allowed as submissions. All submissions must be BRAND NEW STAGES.
2) Stages will be judged based on aesthetic design and fun factor. I will judge aesthetics while the community will grade the fun factor.
3) Joint projects are allowed, but you have to split the prize.
4) Only one submission per person/group.
5) If you are in a group, personal project submissions are not allowed. Your group submission counts as your submission.
6) You cannot steal a design from another player. You can and will be caught.
7) The contest will last until August 31, 2011, OR until 5 submissions are entered, whichever comes LATER.
The prizes are as follows:
Winner of the stage building contest will be awarded 150 tickets, and have their stage featured in an upcoming Void Avoid event.
The first 2 runners up will receive 50 tickets each.
All contenders are welcome to have a complementary beta hat.
Please submit your entries here.
PROTIPS FOR STAGE BUILDING
-Wide stages suck. The matches are too short. Remember, Void Avoid is a game about FALLING DOWN, so if you have no room to FALL DOWN, the game ends too quick. Build vertical stages.
-Instead of using huge blocks (like mega lands), use smaller blocks instead. This gives players more spaces to stand on and makes matches a little (lot) longer.
-Just because it looks good doesn't mean it plays good. Try having a game with some friends on your stage before submitting it.
-Build some block stacks in your stage. Incorporating a stack of 4 or 5 pixels can make for some interesting vantage points.
-Your stage does not need to by symmetrical. Sometimes, lop sided stages can be very interesting and varied. Make something that players want to keep playing at.
